Pianos & Keyboards
AT HOME:
All students must have a piano or keyboard available for practicing at home each day between classes.
Keyboards must have at least a 3 octave range, but do not have to have weighted keys. Keyboards are available for rental or purchase from Dr. Joe for use at home and in class. (See below for details.)
DURING CLASSES:
There are four options:
- Bring your own keyboard and power cord, if it is light-weight and easy to carry.
- Rent a keyboard from Dr. Joe ($80 deposit due at registration. $50 will be refunded if the keyboard is returned undamaged at the end of the 2-week session. Students who take both Levels A & B need only rent a keyboard once.
- Buy a keyboard from Dr. Joe. ($80 due at registration.)
- If you already own a keyboard but it is too heavy to carry, you can borrow a keyboard from Dr. Joe to use in the classes. Then use your own keyboard at home. There is no cost for this option.
This is an accelerated course in the basics of piano playing. It is an inexpensive way to discover if your child is interested in playing the piano and if they are well-suited for future piano study. What would normally take 6 months of private weekly lessons is achieved in just 2 weeks of focused 45-minute daily lessons. All students are encouraged to practice at least 15 minutes each day between classes.
LESSON BOOKS
The Music Tree: A Plan for Musical Growth at the Piano. (Lesson Book and Activity Book) Summy Birchard, Inc. 2000.

Level B class uses both "Time to Begin" and "Level 1" from the Music Tree series.
All books and supplementary exercises designed by Dr. Joe for these classes will be provided at the first class of each 2-week session.
